Charting my career journey into the fourth quarter
When I announced my resignation from a successful consulting firm recently, many people in my network were surprised at my move. You see, I’m taking a career break in the hopes of finding, or at least renewing, my calling. You might call it your passion or spark. It’s that feeling of just knowing that what you’re doing is 100% aligned with your “why” at that moment.
It didn’t make sense to some of my colleagues that someone would give up a perfectly good role. And worse without having something else in place. It became clear though, once I’d gone through my story, that my situation resonated closely with many people. This is especially true for those at a similar stage of their career. Many are looking to reset their career, as evidenced by the global phenomenon known as the great resignation.
I too am part of the great resignation. However, I’m hoping to take a different approach to it. In my view, leaving one company to work for another, without reflecting on the reasons first, is a mistake. It’s unlikely to result in improved job satisfaction, and yet, at scale the financial burden on our economy is detrimental.
A large number of people have expressed their interested in my journey. I have therefore created this site to share it. In fact, writing this blog and interacting with you will help me shape the journey itself. I am hoping that it will inspire others to also consider their own career journey.
My invitation to you
I’d really appreciate hearing from you if you have an opinion, advice to give, agree or disagree with my approach, and especially if you would like to pitch a dream role within your organisation. Feel free to communicate via the comments box at the end of each page, the get in touch page or through social media such as LinkedIn.
